I watched it. My church had a potluck, red and white table cloths, balloon centerpieces with maple-leafs on them and that kind of thing. Since my church meets in a school, they set up a satellite dish on the roof and then ran it through the projector for a'big screen' type of thing. Then I went to my aunts birthday party and watched the rest. I must admit, when the US scored to tie it, I thought all was lost...(well, to be honest, i thought they were going to kick our butts in the first place, but our team pulled through.) For all you you from other countries, I should tell you that the Canadian team had SO much pressure. 1) There were all these commercials, like the Coca Cola one, about 'it's our game' and 'let them know who's game they're playing', Canadian spirit commercials, stuff like that. 2) As of that game, we had 13 gold medals. One more gold and we would have the record number of medals in the winter Olympics. So our officials really wanted that, and it came down to the hockey game. 3) A lot of people in Canada thought the game was the only important part of the Olympics, so they had to put on a good show for those people. 4)The womens team won gold first, and they had to be just as good. 5)They wanted to prove to the world that hockey was still a sport Canada dominated. 6) They were playing against the US, which, to be honest, most Canadians think is an annoying team because they are always at our heels 7) Crosby was playing, and everyone wanted him to look good. 8) it was the last event of the Olympics for sports, and Canada wanted to go out with a bang. 9) And finally, a poll showed that 80% ( yes, you read that right,) 80% of Canadians watched at least part of the game. That's a lot of people watching you. (Approx. 27 million) I'm sure at least 40% of Canadians watched the entire thing.
Just something I'm adding a little later: I got my stats wrong. I know for sure that 10.6 million Canadians watched the hockey game ( i think that's the entire thing) and 80/90% watched at least part of the Olympics. So still a pretty big deal. i can't say all canadians love hockey, because I'm sure 30% couldn't care less, 10% like watching them win but that's it, 30% care somewhat and watch big games and know big names (i know, i could be a poet, right?) and 30% are absolute nuts.
