I can't belive I haven't brought this book up yet....I rank it all the way up there, alongside CS Lewis.
The Riddlemaster appeared, when I first saw it, mildly boring with too many words. My mum bought it for me, since she said it was her favorite book when she was little, but it didn't really look interesting to me and I dropped it immedietly. But, about a year laster, in a sweat of desperation (beacuse I had read all the books on my shelf) I stiffly picked it up again.
Once I hunkered down and pateintly waded through the first chapter, with all its detail and vividness, I got lost in the whole emotion of the book and couldn't beleive why on earth I didn't read it sooner. I spent the next week reading faithfully through all three books whenever I had a spare moment. (and even when I didn't have one, I read it anyways -- and unfortunetly got banned from it for a whole hour --- torture!!) It was the most descriptive, rich and wonderful book I had read, and I reccomend it to anyone who is looking for a sereiously good book.
*Rave over*
First book is called The Riddle-Master of Hed
Second: Heir of Sea and Fire
Thrid: Harpist in the Wind
The Author is Patrica A. McKillip. It is listed under fantasay...but, well, if You've read Narnia, You'll understand why I think it should be listed under "closer to the truth", along with Chronicles. =}
